A Prayer For Personal Healing – Pray to Be Healed and Recover
The Example Of Jesus Teaching The Law
It says in Matthew 5:2324, Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
You would be surprised that Jesus is still instructing the Israelites on how to worship on an altar considering that this was close to the conclusion of Jesus earthly life and slightly before the founding of the Church.
Jesus again upholds the law in Luke 5:14 when he orders a healed man to present himself to the priest. More scripture will reveal that Jesus celebrated the feasts and kept the Passover as required by the Mosaic law.
Jesus certainly followed the law, put it into effect, and taught it. Who then is to say that Jesus was giving the New Testament Church in order to tithe?

Milk Thistle Genesis : 18
Used for: The effects of alcoholism, asthma, cirrhosis, hepatitis, jaundice, kidney and urinary tract stones, psoriasis
We arent certain that milk thistle is one of the thorns, thistles, and briers referred to in the Bible, but it could be. We know that milk thistle grows among shrubs that are common in Samaria and parts of Israel today.
Milk thistle has been used as a liver remedy for 2,000 years. Liver disease attacks the bloods filtration system, allowing dangerous toxins to accumulate in the body. Milk thistle, which contains silymarin, seems to be the most promising natural compound both for preventing damage to the liver and for repairing existing damage.
Studies show that milk thistle can regenerate damaged liver cells. Research studies have led Commission E, the German expert panel that judges the safety and effectiveness of medicinal herbs for the German government, to approve milk thistle seeds and seed extracts as supportive treatment for cirrhosis and chronic inflammatory liver conditions. Silymarin also helps protect the liver from many industrial toxins, such as carbon tetrachloride. Even if you dont have liver damage or disease, milk thistle helps improve liver functions by aiding the removal of toxins from the body.
Frankincense Or Matthew : 10

Used for: Dysentery, gonorrhea, fever, polyps
The magi brought the newborn Jesus three gifts: gold to recognize his kingship frankincense to acknowledge his holiness or divinity and myrrh to symbolize the hardship and suffering that he would endure.
Frankincense is an important ingredient in incense. Literally, frank means free and incense means lighting. The Arabic word for frankincense, luban, means milk of the Arabs. The aromatic gum was used for incense, perfume, holy ointments, and as a fumigant. Not native to Israel, frankincense was imported by caravan from Arabia and East Africa.
The gum is obtained by cutting incisions into the bark of the frankincense shrub. The milky juice that exudes hardens into tears within a few weeks. These tears are favored in Lebanon primarily as incense and secondarily as a medicine or cosmetic. Essential oil of frankincense, or oil of olibanum, is used in high-grade perfumes, especially in oriental and floral types.

What Does The Bible Say About Herbs
While I wholeheartedly believe Christians can use and learn about herbs without fear of sinning, I dont believe the Bible expressly commands believers to use herbs.
So if Ive upset any of my non-Christian herbalist friends, heres where I disappoint some Christians.
Yes, there are some Scriptural references about plants used for healing. Other verses mention medicinal herbs in general, as well.
Scholars disagree on the exact number of herbs mentioned in the Bible, with some suggesting over 200 and others just 45, including only a small handful referenced as explicitly medicinal.
No matter how many herbs the Bible actually mentions, the most well-known verse herbal enthusiasts cite is the last phrase of Revelation 22:2:
and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
While this initially sounds like solid proof that herbalism isnt sinful, I dont use that verse to defend Christian herbalism. Heres why.
- The verse is clearly prophetic, speaking of the new Jerusalem. It doesnt refer to this current earth, so using it that way is taking the verse out of context.
- We dont know if the tree and its leaves are literal or figurative. If theyre figurative, then this phrase most certainly doesnt apply to earthly plants.
- We dont actually need this verse to defend herbalism for Christians. We can make the case without it and let this verse be a beautiful prophetic promise for our future home.
Bible Verses About Herbs
He causes the grass to grow for the cattle,And vegetation for the labor of man,So that he may bring forth food from the earth,
Better is a dish of vegetables where love isThan a fattened ox served with hatred.
Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you And you will eat the plants of the field
You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy,For your dew is as the dew of the dawn,And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits.
But woe to you Pharisees! For you pay tithe of mint and rue and every kind of garden herb, and yet disregard justice and the love of God but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.
Let my teaching drop as the rain,My speech distill as the dew,As the droplets on the fresh grassAnd as the showers on the herb.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.

Healing Miracles Of Jesus
Jesus’s healing is for today just as much as it was when he walked the earth and performed miracles of healing the sick and disabled. The Bible tells us that “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” ~ Isaiah 53:5. Jesus can still heal today!
Magic And Medicine In The World Of The Old Testament
In the ancient world, there is no clear-cut distinction between ritual/magic and medicinal uses of the same plant . Medical practices in Egypt and in Mesopotamia involved, in addition to the use of medicinal plants, rituals and incantations.
This paper does not aim at a detailed catalogue of specific uses for each plant in each civilization. Our study is limited to re-examining questions arising from the list of actual and potential medicinal plants of the Bible.

Revisiting The Medicinal Plants Of The Bible And The Holy Land
Many previously described medicinal plants of the Bible do not match the flora of the Holy Land. Using modern interpretations of ancient Hebrew, Egyptian and Mesopotamian sources, the authors have reduced these potential medicinal plants to 45 species of which 20 were not previously included. Amots Dafni has extensive knowledge of the ethnobotany of sacred, ritual and medicinal plants of the Holy Land. Barbara Boeck studies ancient Mesopotamian healing therapies and medicinal plants.
The Holy Land, an area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea that also includes the Eastern Bank of the Jordan, is synonymous with the biblical land of Israel and Palestine. This was an ancient botanical crossroad, enjoying an active trade in spices, incense and medicines from Egypt to Mesopotamia and beyond. Its flora includes about 2,700 species, some of medical value.
Among the early written records of plants in this region are Egyptian medical papyri. Ebers papyrus contains 700 magical formulas and prescriptions, including the medical uses of plants. In the ruins of Assyrian Nineveh , thousands of cuneiform documents from earlier than 500 BC were found that mention over a thousand plant species. Many of the medical cuneiform texts remain to be translated.
Most of the plants in the Bible are only mentioned in passing, with reference to medicinal use occurring even less.

Who Gets The Glory For Herbal Remedies
For the Christian, no one gets the glory for herbalism but God Himself.
And while many pagan cultures and other religions developed complex and often effective healing systems using herbs, that doesnt mean they got everything right.
I love how my friend Jasmine from The Christian Herbal put it:
Herbalism is not rooted in paganism. Herbalism is perverted in paganism.
You see, herbalism gives us an opportunity to thank God for graciously providing us with healing plants. Pagans and people of other faiths may give that glory to a false god, nature, or the plants themselves, but their idolatry doesnt make herbalism inherently sinful.
As a Christian herbalist, my faith is the foundation of my love for herbal medicine.
God blessed this planet with incredible plants that work in remarkable ways within the human body. He knew sin would cause sickness, and in His love, He provided helpful remedies even before the human race fell.
When I use an herb to help the body heal, God gets the glory. Not the plant, not Mother Earth, not a nature spirit.
These remedies work because God designed them to.
I dont need to thank nature, talk with the plants, or shake a rattle to benefit from herbs.
God, in His goodness, gave us these plants. I, as a Christian herbalist, am incredibly thankful to have these botanicals at my service.
How Can Christians Use Herbs For Gods Glory

Scripture is clear: God calls Christians completely avoid witchcraft, idolatry, and spiritualism .
And thankfully, you can do that and still confidently use herbal remedies. Just keep some things in mind.
- Follow your conscienceas you choose herbal practices and give your fellow Christians that freedom, too. Some Christians can burn an herb for medicinal reasons with a pure conscience. Others might feel its too close to a spiritual practice and decide to avoid it. Both can be valid choices.
- Pray for guidance as you choose herbal teachers. Like choosing how you use herbs, choosing how you study herbs as a Christian isnt a black and white issue. I choose to learn from believers and nonbelievers alike but avoid a few herbalists whose unbiblical practices and spirituality are a key feature of their teaching. Joining my free email list is a great place to start.
- Consider how your herbal practices might impact your Christian brothers and sisters, especially those who are young or weak in faith . For example, if you burn sage for medicinal reasons but know it might cause a brother or sister to doubt, then consider doing this practice privately.
- Use herbs with faith in the God Who created them . Pray for wisdom as you choose remedies, use them in Jesuss name, and give God the glory when health and wellness are restored. If you dont want to figure that out on your own, I can help.
God is the ultimate healer, and He can heal in many ways. Herbs can be one avenue for that healing.

St Raphael The Archangel
The name Raphael derives from the Hebrew root meaning, to heal or God has healed. As one of only a few angels mentioned by name in the Bible, Raphael is one whom Catholics pray to for intercession on their behalf when their desperate health situation needs divine intervention.
The book of Tobit is one of the earliest mentions of St. Raphael the Archangel. The books narrative recounts him walking on earth in human form, acting as a physician and worker of miracles. One of the final miracles is his healing of Tobits blindness using a mere fish.
Then there is the story of the Pool of Bethesda in John 5. Catholic tradition holds that St. Raphael was the angel who would stir the waters, healing the first person who would enter the water after it was stirred.
Today, Catholics revere St. Raphael the Archangel as the patron saint of the blind, nurses, medical practitioners and physicians. Remember St. Raphael in your prayers when you are in need of divine healing from God.

Bible Verses About Healing
One of Gods names in the Bible is Jehovah Rapha , which means the God who heals. Healing is a part of Gods character and one way that He reveals Himself to us. 3 John 3:1-2 says, Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. When we are confronted with the mental battle of wondering if God wants to heal us or someone were praying for, like a friend or family member, we need to remember 2 Corinthians 10:5. We are instructed to demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. We can do that through reading and memorizing Bible verses about healing.
Speaking the Word of God over our body, soul, and spirit can have a powerful effect on our thought life and the spirit realm. We have collected some scripture verses on healing for you to meditate upon and pray over yourself. Write these Bible verses about healing in your journal, put them on your bathroom mirror or on your desk at work, and declare them out loud over your body until the voice of the Lord becomes louder than the voice of doubt.
Exodus 23:25
We pray that you experience the power of God as Jehovah Rapha as you pray these healing scriptures over your or your loved ones life! To request prayer, .

A discussion about how to use traditional medicines safely and effectively
Traditional medicines – a gift from God.
From the very beginning, we read in Genesis 1:29 how God placed plants in our lives. He gave us seed-bearing plants and trees that bear fruit for our use as food. And so in every place wet or dry, land or sea, appropriate plants grow .
- What does this mean in our daily lives and to life on earth?
A body, which is well nourished, is also usually a healthy body. When we eat a balanced diet the food we eat can be seen as preventive healthcare. In addition, God gives us the use of plants and herbs for curative care, both physical and emotional .
- Reflect on how people have used plants, seeds and herbs. What are the consequences of such use?
Jesus ministry included both spiritual healing and physical healing. He used divine power , faith , touch and even prepared products such as the mud and saliva used for healing in John 9:6-7.
There were also rituals associated with cleansing and healing both in the Old and the New Testament .
- Consider the different healing methods that are available today and the rituals associated with them. Which would you, as a Christian, agree with and why?
