Jesus Heals The Bleeding Woman
Today in the Gospel Jesus encounters our two most dramatic situations, death and disease. However, in this period in which illness is still at the centre of the news, we will focus on the healing of the woman. More than her health, her affections were compromised. Why? She had blood loss and therefore, according to the mindset of the time, she was deemed impure. She was a marginalised woman she could not have stable relationships she could not have a husband she could not have a family, and could not have normal social relationships, because she had an illness that rendered her impure. She lived alone, with a wounded heart. What is the greatest illness of life? Tuberculosis? The pandemic? No. The greatest illness of life is a lack of love it is not being able to love. This poor woman was sick, yes, with blood loss, but as a result, with a lack of love, because she could not be with others socially. And the healing that counts the most is that of the affections.
At times we are content to repeat prayers – many times, like parrots

More From Rabbi Jason Jesus And The Woman With The Issue Of Blood
Yeshuagot up and began to follow him, with His disciples. Just then a woman, losing blood for twelve years, came from behind and touched thetzitzitof His garment.
For she kept saying to herself, If only I touch His garment, I will be healed.
But thenYeshuaturned and saw her. Take heart, daughter, He said, your faith has made you well. at very hour the woman was healed. Matthew 9:19-22 TLV
A woman who had been suffering with bleeding for twelve years reached out and grabbed the hem of Jesus garment. Jesus responded by saying, Someone touched Me I know that power has gone out from Me . The woman, realizing that she could not hide, came trembling and fell at His feet, telling Jesus why she had touched Him and how she had been healed instantly.
The bleeding woman had every reason to be fearful. Among religious Jews, it was and still is considered immodest and inappropriate to touch a man, even ones husband, in public. But even worse, this woman was ritually unclean and could spread her impurity to any person she touched . She could have faced serious consequences for such a bold action.
But of course, there is something more! A key detail often overlooked in this passage is that the woman touched the edge of his cloak . She did not just touch the fringe, but rather His tzitzit, the ritual tassels placed on each corner of every four-corner garment. These tzitzit are described in the book of Numbers:
Also, there is a messianic promise that states,

Jesus Called Attention To Her Healing
Perhaps one of the most remarkable things about this healing is the way Jesus calls attention to this woman. He doesnt have toaccording to Luke and Mark, she was already healedand Jesus isnt bragging about what Hes done. Hes accomplishing two things here:
For 12 years, this woman was frequently forbidden from entering the outer courts of the templeGods dwelling placeand participating in religious gatherings. Since earthly medical care couldnt solve her problem, people may have assumed that her suffering was Gods willperhaps even a curse, given to her because she was an especially sinful person. Additionally, she wouldve often been unable to demonstrate her commitment to and faith in God through participation in significant religious rituals.
She needed to receive physical restoration before she could begin the process of spiritual restoration.
After more than a decade of being ceremonially unclean, its doubtful that anyone would have described her as a woman of great faith or someone who should be looked to as an example. And yet here is Jesus, the son of God, proclaiming that her faith has healed her. Instead of spreading her uncleanness wherever she goes, now a powerful, encouraging story of faith would spread instead. Shes no longer someone everyone should dissociate with, but someone to admire and learn from.

Who Was The Woman With The Issue Of Blood
The unnamed woman in this passage is memorable for her faith, but the Bible doesnt tell us anything more about who she is or her involvement with Jesus or the church. Her faith that touching Jesus clothes would heal her could have come from personally observing Jesus over time, or from simply hearing about his many miraculous healings. Mark suggests that her actions were an immediate response to hearing about Jesusperhaps seeing Jairus, a synagogue leader, begging Him to heal or resurrect his daughter was all this woman needed to believe. Maybe she simply hears the crowd discussing who He is and what Jairus believes He is capable of.
Aside from these three parallel passages, the Bible doesnt mention her again. We dont know her age, where shes from, or what she does. All she was known for was her physical affliction, her story of suffering, and now shes remembered for her restoration.
Jesus Power Isnt Limited By Human Constraints
This woman has tried everything she possibly could to get better. Despite spending everything she has to get help from doctors, her condition has only become worse. Shes exhausted all her options, and nothing worked. That doesnt stop Jesus, and remarkably, it doesnt discourage her from coming to Him.
Jesus power to heal isnt rooted in whats possible for humans. He wields Gods power.

When Jesus Heals It Is Complete
Faith is one of those spiritual disciplines that permeates all aspects of life. This bleeding woman was experiencing untold anguish across all areas of her existence.
Because of the Jewish rules about bleeding and the social stigma associated with being diseased, she was not able to enjoy healthy human relationships, whether romantic or otherwise.
She was isolated from her religious community. There was a belief that illness was Gods way of punishing people so there is a great chance that she was shunned by her family and disowned by her father. As a woman in that society, this was an extremely vulnerable place to be. She had no one to cover her or speak up for her.
This is perhaps one reason why Jesus calls her daughter: to indicate to her that she had been restored. For so long she was an outcast. Ostracized. Defined by her disease. Her self-worth would have been trampled on. The isolation would have caused her to get used to being invisible in society.
But Jesus assures her that she belonged to Him. She might have had no one to cover her but now she did. She didnt have anyone to defend her but now she did. She was unwanted but Jesus claimed her openly.
Her physical healing, coupled with her new found identity in Christ, would now allow her to resume social interactions, participate in worship services, get a job, get married and even have children.
And there is more.
When God heals, your entire life is affected because faith spans all aspects of our being.
Jesus Healing The Bleeding Woman
21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live. 24 So Jesus went with him.
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed. 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.
30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, Who touched my clothes?
31 You see the people crowding against you, his disciples answered, and yet you can ask, Who touched me?
32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.

Jesus Heals A Woman Bleeding For 12 Years Mark : 21
On February 4, 2020, Tuesday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time, we will feature a Bible verse of the day.25 There was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years.26 She had endured a great deal at the hands of several physicians and had exhausted all of her financial resources.Despite this, she was not assisted and instead deteriorated.27 She had heard about Jesus and had walked up behind him in the crowd, touching his coat, when she saw him.
You Are To Be Open About Jesus

This brings us to the third lesson we learn from this woman: you and I are to be open about Jesus. We cant hide from Jesus and we shouldnt hide what He has done for us either. There will be times when Jesus will draw you out of the crowd to declare your faith in Him. Mark tells us in verse 30, Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, Who touched my robe?31 His disciples said to him, Look at this crowd pressing around you. How can you ask, Who touched me? 32 But he kept on looking around to see who had done it. We see several things about Jesus from this.
The power of Jesus
Mark tells us in verse 30, Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him. This reveals an important truth about the nature of God. Divine power is not an impersonal cosmic force somehow detached from God. Rather, God is personally engaged in every act of power from creation to redemption to sustaining the universe . Gods power is part of who He is. You cannot separate Gods power from His nature and character. Just as you cannot separate Gods love from who He is and how personal that love is the same is true about Gods power. When you encounter Gods love you are encountering Him. When you encounter Gods power you are encountering Him.

Woman With The Issue Of Blood Scriptures
The story of the bleeding woman can be found in the three of the four gospels. Here are the Scripture portions for each account.
- Matthew 9:2022
Each of these Bible authors gives us the same story but with different details and flavors. If you read them all together you will get a rich, colorful picture of this event.
You Are To Place Your Faith In Jesus
The second lesson we learn is, you are to place your faith in Jesus. I know that sounds basic, but I want you to notice something about this woman that would be helpful to you. Mark tells us in verse 27, She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. 28 For she thought to herself, If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed. 29 Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition.
Hearing
Mark tells us, She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. She had already heard about Jesus. Jesus was not new to her. By this time Jesus had already healed hundreds, if not thousands of people by now. As she was hearing about Jesus something significant was taking place in the heart and mind of this woman. She started believing what she was hearing. She is an illustration of Romans 10:17 which says, Faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ . By the time Jesus comes to town she had already heard enough and believed enough to approach Jesus for help.
Hoping
Now watch this, because we go from hearing to hoping. Mark tells us in verse 28, For she thought to herself, If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed. She didnt know what exactly would happen, but she had hope and faith that if she could get to Jesus and touch his robe she would be healed.
