Ask Only For Right Action
A disease, an illness or an injury may have a purpose, meaning or lesson in someones life that we cannot see from our perspective, so requesting or invoking the healing we desire with the clear intention of also invoking Right Action is a way of protecting the person requesting healing from unintended consequences or harm. This alignment with Right Action whether by aligning with Divine Will or the Higher Will of the person you are striving to heal is of paramount importance.
For most engaging in laying on of hands, is for healing. You must however remember that as a group participant it is not your personal will that you are invoking. You need to surrender to and be a conduit of group Divine Will, and focus on what is right action for the person you are trying to heal.
Phrases such as within Gods Will and the highest good of all are examples of how to invoke the desired healing and the necessary surrender of your personal will. There are many others. Whereas what protective phrase you use is not important, this harmony of using you mind and intention while concurrently surrendering to right action, highest good or Divine Will are essential rules of the road to energetic healing. That blending is a protection from the unintended consequences that can cause harm, which is certainly never the intent of healing.
What Does The Bible Say About Laying On Of Hands To Heal Someone Who Is Sick
I have been an elder in a church in the Dallas area for nearly 25 years, and on a number of occasions the elders have gathered to pray for someone who is seriously ill. Our primary passage of Scripture is James 5:13-16:
13 Is anyone among you suffering? He should pray. Is anyone in good spirits? He should sing praises. 14 Is anyone among you ill? He should summon the elders of the church, and they should pray for him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick and the Lord will raise him upand if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 So confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness .
Over the years we have seen a few instances of marvelous healing, and in the other cases, the outpouring of Gods grace so that the illness was received as Gods will for their lives.
You may want to look at the message I did on James 5, which deals with this text.
It can be a very wonderful time to gather together and pray for one who is ill. The important thing is to emphasize Gods goodness and His power, as well as to give the one who is sick the opportunity to confess any hidden sins . If God chooses to heal them, they should gladly accept this If God chooses to take them home, they, like Paul can eagerly look forward to seeing Him face to face.

Why I Lay Hands On People
The laying on of hands is a great subject and its biblical. This ministry is a Bible ministry, and I go according to the Word of God. Jesus is the example, my example and yours. In the Great Commission Jesus said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe In my name shall they cast out devils they shall speak with new tonguesthey shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover . Who would lay hands on the sick? The believers, Jesus believers. Because the Bible tells us to lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover, I lay hands on the sick. Jesus said a believer would lay hands on the sick, and He would get them well.

Christian Laying On Of Hands
In Christianity, the laying on of hands is both a symbolic and formal method of invoking the Holy Spirit primarily during baptisms and confirmations, healing services, blessings, and ordination of priests, ministers, elders, deacons, and other church officers, along with a variety of other church sacraments and holy ceremonies.
In the New Testament the laying on of hands was associated with Christ healing the sick /Luke#4:40″ rel=”nofollow”> Luke 4:40) and after his ascension, the receiving of the Holy Spirit /Acts#8:14″ rel=”nofollow”> 8:1419). Initially the Apostles laid hands on new believers as well as believers. /Acts#6:5″ rel=”nofollow”> Acts 6:56). In the early church, the practice continued and is still used in a wide variety of church ceremonies, such as during confirmation.
They Shall Lay Hands On The Sick

And these signs shall follow them that believe In my name shall they cast out devils they shall speak with new tongues They shall take up serpents and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
In Mark 16:18, Jesus said that believers would lay hands on the sick, and the sick would recover. What category of sick people was Jesus talking about? What did He mean when He said they would recover? Are there examples of this in Jesus own ministry that we can read and learn from? Lets look deeply into this verse today to see how it applies to you and me!
First, lets look at the word sick, because this describes the category of sick people Jesus was talking about. This is the Greek word arroustos, which comes from the word arunnumi. The word runnumi normally means to be well, to be strong, to be in good health, or to possess a strong physical condition. When an a is placed in front of this word, it reverses the condition and instead means to be in bad health or to possess a weak and broken condition. It is the image of a person so weak and sick that he has become critically ill. He is an invalid.
The following three scriptures show us examples of times when Jesus healed people who were afflicted with an arroustos type of sickness:

The Laying On Of Hands Can Certainly Comfort The Soul
Posted September 29, 2008
In its healing form, the term “laying on of hands” is based upon biblical precedent set by Jesus Christ. However, both Christian and non-Christian faith healers will lay hands on the sick and dying during prayers for healing. Of course, Christians will invoke the name and spirit of Jesus, the metaphysical agent through which the healing of physical ailments will occur.
But before those practitioners of that other major religion in these United States—Secularism—move on to the next blog about getting laid, let me summarize a recently published study in this month’s “Annals of Internal Medicine” which intimates the healing power of one human being touching another.
Those who conceived this study appreciated the continued problem of physical and emotional pain many terminally ill patients experience, despite the disseminated dogma that symptom relief is central to end-of-life care. For example, pain associated with advanced cancer can lead to decreased functionality, which in turn leads to a poor quality of life the physical and emotional stress is reinforced by each.
The study did show that massage appeared to have an immediate beneficial effect on pain and mood among patients with advanced cancer. And both massage and “simple touch” resulted in improvements in pain and quality of life over time, without the need for an increase in pain medications.
The laying on of hands may not cure cancer, but it can certainly comfort the soul.
The Apostles Anointed Men To Serve
And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away . After the Apostles had fasted and prayed, they anointed men to serve, using the method of laying on of hands. In the true Church of Jesus Christ when a minister is ordained to preach the Gospel, its through the laying on of hands. Philip and Stephen were used in unbelievable ways with signs, wonders, miracles and healings as they laid hands on people. Hands are to be used Jesus taught that. Jesus became very man to show us how to serve the Lord. Although He had divine blood in His veins, divine blood in His soul, He took on flesh like we have and a human mind. We can have the same ingredients that made up His mind.

The Definition Of The Term Sick
In order to fully analyze the verse, let us first examine the term “sick.” In this passage, the term sick describes the group of people Jesus was speaking about in which there are three occasions in which Jesus healed people who suffered greatly.
“Sickness” is derived from the Greek word arrhostos, which means weak and frail in health, as emphasized in . The scriptures explain that Jesus was particularly attracted to the sick who had no strength. Jesus healed these invalids that day, as we read in Mathew 14:14.
This clearly indicates that these people were severely ill. There is no doubt that these were critical illnesses and that they were not minor ailments as emphasized in .
It is clear from these examples that these were people who were afflicted by sickness and not simply feeling poorly. They had become invalids due to their physical weakness, critical illness, and lack of strength.
Those were not headaches and skin abrasions, but rather, sicknesses that fall under the category of critical illnesses.
What Does Laying On Of Hands Mean Today
It is practiced today in the church during prayer times, to request healing, to bless before a ministry, to encourage, and to formally ordain or take on leadership.
People and families are often called up to the front of the church for prayer when they are getting ready to go on missions. In this time of blessing, the pastor will call on members to come “lay hands.”
This does not have a magical effect but rather is an effective way for the congregation to become involved in the blessing. As part of this endeavor, church leadership often requests the laying on of hands in order for prayer to be offered for healing.
Touching a sick person with a member of the church is not a guarantee of a miracle, but instead, it is seen as a symbol of faith in the Lord to heal them.
Secondly, it can provide encouragement and assurance to the person being prayed over, and it can also be a blessing to the person being prayed over.
So, in order for the church to embrace this biblical custom with knowledge and wisdom in the present day, it should be embraced as well.
In accordance with Scripture’s model, laying on of hands is a means of connecting and bonding together as the body of Christ.
The gift of touch not only offers encouragement through the gift of touch but also serves as a reminder of Jesus’ empathetic humanity and the compassion He displayed during his earthly ministry.

Two Old Testament Precedents
If we now turn directly to the Bible, we find that the laying on of hands was already an accepted practice in the earliest records of Godâs people, as provided by the book of Genesis. For instance, in Genesis 48:14we read how Joseph brought his two sons to his father Jacob to receive Jacobâs blessing:
Then Israel stretched out his righthand and laid it on Ephraimâs head, who was the younger. However, Jacob indicated that he had been conscious of divine guidance in placing his right hand upon Ephraim and his left hand upon Manasseh. With his hands still crossed in this position, he then proceeded to bless the two boys, giving the first and greater blessing to Ephraim and the lesser blessing to Manasseh.
This passage shows plainly that it was an accepted practice that the blessing of Jacob should be transmitted to his two grandsons by laying his hands upon their heads and, furthermore, that the greater blessing was transmitted through Jacobâs right hand and the lesser through his left hand.
For our second example, we read that as Moses came near to the end of his earthly ministry he asked the Lord to appoint a new leader over Israel who should be ready to take Mosesâ place. The way in which the Lord ordained for Moses to make provision for this need is recorded in Numbers 27:18â20:
The way in which Moses carried out this commandment of the Lord is recorded in verses 22 and 23 of the same chapter:
The result produced in Joshua is recorded in Deuteronomy 34:9:
What Does It Mean To Lay Hands On The Sick
While we have seen the laying on of hands used for different purposes, what does it mean to lay hands on the sick? The laying on of hands was one method used for healing the sick. Jesus did this, but so did the apostles. In Luke 4, Jesus visits the home of Simon, and we discover Simons mother-in-law was sick with a high fever. Jesus healed her, even though he did not do this by laying on of hands. What happened after Jesus healed her is what I want to point your attention to.
At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. Luke 4:40
Jesus laid his hands on the sick and they were healed. When Jesus would lay hands on the sick, healing power would flow from him to those who were sick. While Jesus did not have to lay hands on the sick to heal them, he often did. This was just one way he demonstrated his power to bring healing to a sick body. Jesus was not the only one who would lay hands on the sick, the apostles did this as well. The book of Acts records moments where healing took place, and on one occasion Paul healed Publius father. Pay attention to what Paul did to heal Publius father.

Laying On Hands For Healing
This article is part of my on-going series on Healing.
Hands-on healing, also known as energy healing or the spiritual healing practice of laying on hands, has been experienced for thousands of years.
In Greek mythology, Chiron, taught Asclepius, the God of Medicine, hands-on healing. This was the source of the word Chi-ergy, which evolved into surgery.
Later, in Christianity, we are told stories of Jesus ability to heal using the laying-on-of-hands and initially the Apostles laid hands on new believers as well as believers.
If God can work through me, he can work through anyone. Saint Francis of Assisi
Even Science has proven that your energy your thoughts and intention can be used to help heal another. This is a gift we can give one another in life. One important way we can do this is by the laying on of hands. This connection of your physical body with the body of the one who needs healing acts as a transmitter to energize and empower the act of healing.
A tradition of the early church that extended well into the middle ages was the laying on of hands for healing.
Offering healing to one another is a way ofdemonstrating love for one another. Genevieve Gerard
For whatever reason, the laying on of hands is not widely offered today even among groups of spiritual people. Yet to participate in healing is one of the most significant ways you can demonstrate your faith and serve others.
Healing Through The Laying On Of Hands

A Biblical Basis For Laying On Of HandsOld Testament ExampleSin Transferred To The Goat
Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man. The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land and he shall release the goat in the wilderness.
Wisdom Transferred
Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Elementary Principles
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Holy Spirit Received
And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
