What Are The Causes Of Obsessional Thinking And Compulsions

Bay Pines Mental Health Recruitment 2022

Thought-action fusion is a cognitive mechanism that appears to underlie many OCD obsessions. TAF refers to the tendency OCD clients have to believe that thoughts are equivalent to actions, so that having a blasphemous thought would be as sinful as committing a blasphemous act, or that the thought of a loved one having a car accident would make the accident actually occur. In an effort to alleviate the anxiety produced by the obsessive thoughts and to prevent the feared consequences associated with them, individuals with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder perform such compulsions as washing and cleaning, checking, counting, ordering, and praying. Some compulsions are carried out to relieve an internal experience of not feeling right or okay rather than reducing anxiety. Additionally, some clients carry out rituals in an effort to feel complete or to relieve the sense that something remains undone. Neutralization is a common mental compulsion that OCD clients employ to mentally reverse or avert perceived catastrophic events.

The Trauma Foundations Mission Is To Support The Healing Of Unresolved Trauma For Individuals Families And Communities

There is an epidemic of personal and social issues including addiction, chronic disease, anxiety, depression, PTSD and more whose roots can all be traced to trauma, adverse childhood experiences, chronic stress, and ultimately nervous system dysregulation.

In the last number of years there has been groundbreaking research in neuroscience that has fundamentally changed our understanding of how trauma can impact individuals psychologically, physiologically, emotionally, and socially. From this, several new and highly effective treatment modalities have been developed at the clinical level to build resilience and support the healing of individuals struggling with chronic symptoms resulting from unresolved trauma.

The Trauma Foundation is focused on making this work more accessible by developing and directly supporting programs, initiatives, and research focused on trauma recovery.

Exceptional Psychological Care For Your Unique Needs

A letter from the PCH Founders regarding Covid-19.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to change shape, we want to remind everyone that we consider all of our staff and clients to be part of our PCH family. Accordingly, we continue to navigate the pandemic placing the health and safety of our clients and staff first.

We have all experienced significant disruptions in our lives social, psychological, medical, financial and otherwise. This is the time that PCH is needed most of all. We know how it important it is to make our services available and safe.

Toward this end, we are continuing to maintain our treatment milieu and see clients on the office premises at PCH in a safe and secure manner. The majority of our staff members and therapists are vaccinated and we are now working to vaccinate clients who live with us and those who qualify under California and CDC guidelines who are day treatment participants.

All current clients have been tested and are negative for the coronavirus. When new clients arrive, they are screened, temperature-checked and tested with antibody and PCR antigen testing. New clients are only allowed to directly interact with other clients once they have tested negative for COVID-19 antigen.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Causes Of Dual Diagnosis

At PCH Treatment Center we help many people who have failed treatment at drug and alcohol centers because their underlying psychological issues have not been addressed. Failed can mean continued addiction, or abstinence with a flaring up of anxiety, depression, mania, personality issues, trauma or other psychological difficulties. It can also refer to someone who, though abstinent, is not functioning within their family, work or school environment.

While treatment of a client with a Dual-Diagnosis may be challenging, at PCH Treatment Center we have a strong expertise in separating out addictive behaviors from psychological problems whose symptoms may be masked by substance abuse. Alcohol or drug use or withdrawal can certainly mimic psychiatric symptoms. Untreated chemical dependency can contribute to the onset or recurrence of psychiatric problems. Accordingly, it is extremely important to make a correct initial diagnosis when multiple issues are concurrent, to optimize subsequent treatment.

Traditionally, substance abuse problems have been treated in a more intense or confrontational manner when compared to psychological problems, which are addressed in a more supportive, non-confrontational manner. PCH Treatment Center offers an integrated program for clients with Dual Diagnosis, which balances these treatment approaches. We feature therapists with specific expertise in working with clients with Dual Diagnosis in an immersive setting.

What Are Separation And Individuation Issues

The term individuation refers to the process of developing a sense of individuality. This individuality manifests itself as personal perspectives, emotions, and beliefs, separate from those of friends or family. Individuation is an ongoing, and some would argue lifelong, process.

The inability to individuate impedes the development of ones sense of self, which can cause significant distress. Issues with separation and individuation can manifest as difficulties pursuing goals that differ from their family and friends wishes, which can result in feelings of depression and anxiety. A lack of individuation can also lead to co-dependence, problematic romantic, familial, and professional relationships, difficulty with independent decision-making, and a sense of aimlessness in life.

Individual Therapy Can Help With:

  • Resolving marital & family conflicts
  • Chronic anxiety, panic attacks & phobias
  • Anger management problems
  • Problems related to early trauma
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Overwhelming feelings of grief and bereavement
  • Addiction and substance abuse issues
  • Living with a chronic physical or mental condition

Just as our physical body loses its resilience and accumulates toxins throughout the years, our mind accumulates the burdens of our lives and becomes polluted with repressed emotions, painful experiences, ineffective defense mechanisms, old beliefs and harmful habits. Unfortunately, it is not yet the norm in our society to take as good care of our mental self as of our physical bodies. This trend, however, has been gradually changing as mounting scientific evidence indicates that many physical disorders are rooted in psychological causes. More and more people are seeking to improve the quality of their lives through counselling, psychotherapy, or coaching.

What Are The Causes Of Separation And Individuation Issues

Issues with separation and individuation are generally caused by developmental factors, such as family dynamics, though untreated mental health concerns may also impair this process. Individuation begins in infants, who gradually begin spending increasing amounts of time away from their mother. This process accelerates during adolescence, when a child begins to explore their identity further as they gain more freedom to act autonomously. Impediments to this process, such as a familys refusal to accept aspects their childs burgeoning identity or attempts to hinder their independence, may negatively impact the process of individuation. When a parent or family impedes individuation, it is often self-serving where their child may be acting as their caregiver or providing some psychological support in an unhealthy dynamic.

Nothing I can truly and ethically say. They had literally no HR department to even resolve any legitimate serious issues because they refused to pay for one.

The worst company I have truly ever seen. Horribly unethical and misleading to both their patients and staff. Illegal work practices-I was hired and considered as full time, onboarded fully, then was told I do not have any access to full time PTO or benefits. Refusal to pay for any required trainings necessary to do the work. I worked through personal injuries and holidays. Management is TOXIC beyond anything you can imagine blame is deflected, never taking any responsibility for their illegal practices. Patients are manipulated to come to the program by their answers during the initial intake process . Staff turnover is unreal, literally every other day or every week, because burnout is so bad. This company ONLY cares about money. I am surprised they havent been further audited and shut down. I am only writing this to warn people.

Advice to Management

Your toxic greed goes against every code of ethical practice in the social sciences. You literally only care about money and not about any kind of treatment. The most poorly run money hungry beast of greed. You may be taking home millions at the expense of the employees running your company with projected blame onto them, but money in this field can never buy a clean conscience. PCH is a for profit fraud that is truly the antichrist of any care or healing.

Based on the results of psychological testing, we may choose to address a child’s issues through cognitive-behavioural therapy, play therapy, family therapy, or relational psychodynamic therapy. We also conduct giftedness testing and cognitive profile assessments for children and teenagers and career assessments for teenagers and young adults.

As parents, we want our children to be healthy, happy, and successful. We want them to grow, to acquire new skills and knowledge, to discover their special gifts and talents, and to form gratifying relationships with others. Human development, however, does not always proceed in a simple and consistent manner. All children go through stages of internal conflict which might lead to changes in behavior and emotional state. Some children have trouble coping with transitions, family changes , traumatic events, losses, and physical illness. At times, normal development may be blocked or thwarted due to a neurological, developmental, or psychological disorder.

Our licensed psychotherapists have decades of experience in working with adult clients. We use an integrative approach, combining different types of therapy such as

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
  • Meaning-Centered Therapy

A Safe Place To Stabilize And Recover

Life can be overwhelming and even the best of us can reach an impasse and get stuck. Everyone has a story that needs to be told. We are here to help you tell yours.

In a world of labels that so often define us, sometimes, we are just looking for answers and a proper diagnosis that comes with a name. Regardless if it is PTSD, depression, anxiety, stress or a host of other psychological issues, the struggle is real because its yours. It can be confusing, daunting and even frightening. Identifying what its not is equally as important as identifying what in fact it is and determining how best to treat it. Matters of an emotional and psychological nature present themselves differently in people. There is no special wand or single treatment that can be magically waved or applied all across the board. This is why it is crucial to seek out an experienced treatment center that focuses on the individual and treats individual problems in individual ways. At 1 Method Center, its not only our philosophy, its what we do, with every single client, every single day.
