About St Francis Of Assisi
Francis was born at Assisi in Umbria in 1181 or 1182. The son of a wealthy cloth merchant, he enjoyed an easy life. He was very well liked by everyone and considered a leader among his peers. Francis longed to be a knight so when Assisi and Perugia went to war, he joined the fight. Captured and imprisoned for a year, Francis was ransomed only to resume his old ways. He longed for glory but on the way to his next battle, dressed in fine armor, he had a dream in which God told him to return home to Assisi.
Francis turned to God in prayer and solitude to discover his calling. Kneeling below the crucifix in San Damiano Church, he heard God tell him, Francis, repair my church. Of course, Francis thought God meant the church where he was kneeling so he immediately went out and sold some of his fathers fabric to get money for the repairs. Furious, his father demanded his money back. Francis returned the money, denounced his inheritance and stripped himself of the clothes on his back. Begging for stones, he rebuilt San Damiano and two other deserted Chapels, St. Peters and St. Mary of the Angels. Francis took the Gospel message literally, gave away all he had, served the poor, took nothing for the journey and, as others joined him, went out two by two to preach penance, brotherly love and peace. He and his followers went to Rome to have their order approved by Pope Innocent III. Francis was made a deacon so he could read the Gospels in Church.
Who Is Saint Francis Of Assisi
The Story of Saint Francis of Assisi is one that most of us in recovery can relate to. Saint Francis was born in Italy in 1181. He was most known for his drinking and partying and living a life of luxury and indulgence. He ended up getting into a fight and was held captive for a ransom. He came from a wealthy family and waited almost a year in jail for his father to come up with the ransom. It was this time being jailed that he began to hear the voice of Christ and develop a relationship with God.
Saint Francis started his life as most of us do in recovery, he led a life of sin. He was a troubled teenager, he was under the influence a majority of the time and was known for breaking all the rules.
In 1202 war broke between Assisi and Perugia, the men of Assisi came under attack and with little to no combat experience Saint Francis was captured by enemy soldiers and due to his fathers wealth was held captive for ransom.
After he finished his time in jail he took an oath to live a life of poverty and help restore people to their faith in God. Now being in his early 20s he spent the rest of his days helping rebuild the Christian church. Saint Francis had great Charisma and drew in thousands of followers that listened to him as he preached to restore Christian Values to the Church.
Saint Francis held himself to very high spiritual values and was on a mission of Christ-like perfection. At the time of his death, October 3, 1226 he was 44 years.

More animals are killed in the food industry than in laboratories, on fur farms, in puppy mills, in circuses, in traps, and by hunting combined. Theyre made of flesh, blood, and bone and can feel love, happiness, loneliness, and fear, just like human beings. Yet because they were born chickens or pigs or fish or other animals humans like to use for food, these animals are never allowed to do anything thats natural and important to them: Theyre never able to feel grass beneath their feet, sun on their faces, or fresh air.
Instead, they endure mutilationchicks beaks are burned off, pigs are castrated, and cows are dehorned, castrated, and brandedall without any pain relief. Some animals, such as calves used for veal, are kept in lonely isolation, while others, such as chickens, are crowded so closely together that they can barely move. Factory farmers restrict animals movement, not only to save space but also so that all their energy goes toward producing flesh, eggs, or milk for human consumption. They spend their lives confined to concrete stalls and metal cages, terrified and suffering in such unnatural conditions.
Their fear and pain end only after theyve been transported, without food or water and through all weather extremes, to the slaughterhouse, where millions each year are still conscious when the skin is torn from their bodies and their legs are hacked off.
